The Eastman Selects travelled to St. Norbert Sunday night to try to extend their 2 game winning streak against the Winnipeg Monarchs. From the outset, the Selects outskated, out hustled and outshot their opponents, only to end the first period with a scoreless tie. The second period started out very well as Stuart Brincheski broke away from the Monarch defence and scored the games opening goal. Kody Kennedy added to the lead as he scored with assists going to Colin Baudry and a mystery number on the game sheet (if anyone can tell me, please let me know and I'll acknowledge it). Unfortunately, the Monarchs tied things up, taking advantage of a couple of mistakes the last one coming with only 4 seconds left in the period. The second period ended up tied at 2 with the Selects taking a penalty after the buzzer, giving Winnipeg the power play to open the third. The Monarchs power play proved successful just a minute into the power play as they scored to go ahead for the first time of the game. They added to their lead at the midway point of the period, again from a costly miscue. The Selects battled feverishly all the way to the end, sending countless barrages of offence into the Monarch zone, only to be denied, deflected or just plain bad luck as the puck just wouldn't seem to bounce the Eastman way. Perseverence finally paid off as Ryan Wilgosh got the puck to Joel Messner, who let a thundering slap shot go, being deflected in by Kody Kennedy. But as they say, "Too little, too late", the Monarchs were able to ward off the Eastman charge for the remainder of the game and a 4-3 win. The Selects outshot the Monarchs 28-21 and out chanced them by alot more. The Eastman Selects hope to carry their new found momentum into Wednesday nights game against the Hawks in Ste. Anne. See ya there. |

EASTMAN ZAP LIGHTNING IN STEINBACH |
|
The Eastman Selects stormed into Steinbach through an invitation to play opening act to the MJHL game between the Winnipeg Blues and the Steinbach Pistons. The Eastman boys didn't disappoint as they started the evening with a convincing 3-0 win over the Interlake Lightning. The first period was dominated by the Selects as they produced numerous scoring opportunities, although they couldn't produce the finish to take the game early. The Selects and Lightning ended the period scoreless, and without a penalty. The Selects started the second period as they finished the first, dominating the play. This time they were rewarded early as Caden Kulcsycki scored a minute and a half into the game, assisting on the play was Tyler McGurry and Taylor Friesen. Colin Baudry ended the period by scoring a minute and a half left in the period with assists going to Caden Kulcsycki and Taylor Friesen. The period featured many chances again (including a couple of unlucky bounces, great saves by the Lightning goalie and alot of pucks off the iron) and only one penalty a piece, with the Eastman Selects leading 2-0. The third period featured only one goal by Joel Messner with assists going to Eric Davis and Brett Allen, thus sealing the victory and the first shutout of the season for the Selects and Evan Raugust as the Selects outshot the Lightning 37-14. The Selects now end the first half of the season in fifth place with a 9-7-2 record. The Selects meet the Winnipeg Monarchs Sunday December 13th at the St. Norbert arena to start off the second half of the season. |
