POLL RESULTS

Surprise, the vast majority of the poll were wrong.  The MWJHL is the Manitoba Womens Junior Hockey league.  The person who played was Jennifer Wilgosh, goaltender for the Polar Ice.  The Brams have every other hockey league covered in North America.

I seem to be having trouble thinking of questions from week to week so if you have a brain teaser, send them my way.

EASTMAN FALLS SHORT

 EASTMAN 3                      WPG SHARKS 4

The Selects welcomed back a familiar face as Eric Raugust escaped his hospital bed as he watched his team take on a confident Wpg Sharks team again in the second half in a home and home series (we won't bring up part 1 again).  After some "technical difficulties" the game got off and the Selects found themselves on the power play 5 minutes into the game.  The Selects took advantage and scored the opening marker with 14:36 left by Tyson Lodge, assisted by Brock Bram and Jeff Froese.  This seemed to wake up the Sharks as they poured on the pressure on their own power play to tie up the game. The Eastman boys took over the momentum in the last 5 minutes of the period, drawing a penalty in the last minute.

In the second period, Eastman again took advantage of the man advantage, scoring their second goal just as the penalty ended.  Scoring his second of the game Tyson Lodge, assisted by Jeff Froese and Stuart Brincheski.  Again this woke up the Sharks as they scored two more times, once on the power play.  The momentum continued for the Sharks firing a barrage of shots towards Eastman goaltender Evan Raugust.  The Selects weren't without their own chances as Kody Kennedy and Brock Bram came close with golden chances, but with only seconds remaining, Jeff Froese directed a shot at the opposing net that squeaked through and rolled just inches past the post.  The Sharks dodged a bullet by getting out of the period on top 3-2.

A charged team started the third period only to be dashed at the 3 minute mark of the period as the Sharks scored.  The momentum again shifted back and forth as both teams couldn't finish. With just under 2 minutes left, Eastman pulled the goaltender and sustained a constant attack when with 23 seconds left Kody Kennedy scored on a pass from Brock Bram.  But as they say, "too little, to late".  The Sharks fought off our boys for a narrow 4-3 win.

Next game for the Eastman Selects comes Saturday December 5th when the Brandon Wheat Kings come to town.

SHARKS FEAST ON EASTMAN

On Sunday, the Eastman Selects played the Winnipeg Sharks in Transcona. The first period contained a competitive hard fought game for both sides. With 16:50 left in the period, Joel Schreyer broke in on the left side and snapped the puck to corner past the Sharks goaltender. The Sharks replied back only a minute and a half later to tie the score and again scored toward the end of the frame.

The second period again found the Sharks on the power play early, but on the penalty kill, Kody Kennedy broke in on the net only to be stopped.  On the face off, Kennedy got his retribution as Colin Baudry got the puck to him and he scored the short handed goal to tie the game. The Sharks then went ahead again on the same power play only 30 seconds later, as  Josh Buors weathered a barrage of shots until they finally found the net.  The Sharks then scored 2 more times and never looked back as they scored 6 goals in the period. The only other bright spot in the period was when Taylor Friesen scored, assisted by Jeff Froese and Tyler Lanteigne. The Selects found themselves down 8-3.

The third period remained uneventful as the Selects found themselves down 3 more goals as the Selects left the arena losing 11-3.  The shots ended up 35-26 in favor of the home team. The rematch takes place on Wednesday at 6:30 in Ste. Anne.
