WPG. WARRIORS OVERWHELMED IN STE. ANNE |
EASTMAN SELECTS 8 WPG WARRIORS 3 The Eastman Selects started off just as they left off in Stony Mountain, much to the dismay of the Warriors. The better part of the first period was spent in the Winnipeg zone with a relentless forcheck. It all paid off at 16:51, when Colin Baudry opened the scoring with an unassisted effort. Soon after, the Warriors put on the pressure and lured goaltender, Josh Buors out of position in net only to flash his glove, stopping a sure goal on a yawning net. This save was not only the highlight of the night, but lit the fuse for his team mates, where the responded shortly after with goals by Tyler Funk assisted by Lussier and Davis, Taylor Friesen from Kennedy, less than a minute later Eric Davis scored from Funk. The Warriors came back with a goal, but soon after and with only 1 minute remaining, Tyler Funk got his second goal and third point of the period assisted by Davis and Bram. Only 1 penalty was called in the period against the Warriors. The period ended with a score of 5-1 for the good guys. The second period found a more determined Warrior squad as they put more pressure on the Eastman boys. For the most part, it was a back and forth battle until with 13:16 remaining, Kody Kennedy scored on a great set up by Baudry and an excellent effort by Wilgosh on Eastman's 6th goal. Again at 8:21 left in the second period, Ryan Lussier scored with the assist going to Bram. The chippiness continued to escalate with only a few more penalties called in this period with Eastman recieving two and the Warriors one. This period ended up with a score of 7-1. The third period only intensified in penalties and a few "cheap shots" as the Warriors tried to intimidate our boys, but to no avail. For the most part, the Selects kept their cool and played a strong period albeit with more penalties for both sides. The period remained scoreless until with 3:14 and less than a minute later, the Warriors scored twice. But in less than a minute later, Kody Kennedy got his second goal of the night and third point of the game with assists going to Baudry and Wilgosh making the final score 8-3. The Eastman Selects now wait until Saturday where they travel to Brandon for a game against the Wheat Kings and on Sunday where they will be in Gladstone to face Central Plains for the first time this year. |

PENALTY FILLED AFFAIR ON THE MOUNTAIN |
EASTMAN SELECTS 8 INTERLAKE LIGHTNING 3 The cobwebs were quite evident around the Selects end after an eight day layoff in the first period. The Interlake Lightning seemed to have something to prove as they came into this game in Stony Mountain. The Selects found themselves hemmed into their own end on several occasions as no flow could be established with a barrage of seemingly questionable penalties throughout the period. The Selects seemed to be a lack luster bunch trying to find a flow to their game. The Selects found themselves defending 5 on 3 situations on two separate occasions, as the Lightning took advantage by scoring on both occasions. Evan Raugust kept it close with a couple of point blank saves on the Lightning forwards. The only good scoring chance by the Selects was a miss on the back door made by Colin Baudry to Brett Allen. The score after the first period was Interlake 2, Eastman 0. Eastman found the penalty box 6 times to Interlakes 4. The second period brought about a whole new team as the Selects came out flying, drawing Interlake into numerous penalties. Taylor Friesen started off the scoring taking a pass from Caden Kulcsycki and scoring from the point after a textbook spinorama on the power play with 11:12 left in the second period. Then the floodgates opened with goals by: Kody Kennedy (from Baudry and Messner) Ryan Wilgosh (unassisted)Joel Schreyer (unassisted) Short handed on a massive 1st, 2nd and 3rd effort. Stuart Brincheski (from Lussier) Ryan Lussier (from Friesen and Baudry) The second period found the penalties reversed as Interlake took 6 penalties to Eastmans 4, including another 5-3 against. And Eastman now leading 6-2. The third period again, saw numerous penalties and a lack of flow at times as Interlake took many undisciplined penalties. Eastman scored their 7th goal of the night and second by Stuart Brincheski (unassisted), and Tyler McGurry scored to close out a convincing 8-3 win for the Eastman Selects . The final count in this unusually long game was that Interlake took 16 penalties to Eastman’s 15. The game saw over 100 face offs.Shots on goal favored Eastman 43-28. Eastman Selects next action takes place Monday November 9th at 7:30 at the Ste. Anne arena against the Winnipeg Warriors. |
